Taylor Alison Swift (born 13 December 1989) is an American musician and singer. Her discography spans multiple genres. Her songwriting - often inspired by her personal life--has been praised by critics and received extensive media coverage. Swift was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville when she was 14 years old. She signed a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2004 and a recording contract with Big Machine Records in 2005. The self-titled debut album she released in 2006 made her the first female country singer to record an U.S. platinum-certified album. Swift's subsequent albums, Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2010), explored the country genre of pop. "Love Story" (the first song from the country genre to be ranked at the top of the U.S. pop airplay charts) and "You Are My Friend," the latter, were Swift's next albums, Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2010). Red (2012) saw her experiment with electronic and rock styles. It featured her first Billboard Hot 100 number one track, "We Are Never Ever returning Together". The singer also abandoned her country image in 1989 (2014) the synth-pop album. The album was accompanied by chart-topping singles "Shake It Off", “Blank Space as well as "Bad Blood". Reputation, a hip-hop-flavored album with the number-one hit "Look at What You Made Me Do", was inspired by media attention. Swift quit Big Machine and signed with Republic Records in 2018. In 2018, Swift released Lover (2019) which was her seventh studio album. She was then followed by Miss Americana (2020), which is a documentary about her autobiography. She ventured into indie folk and alternative rock in her 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore, whose singles "Cardigan" as well as "Willow" were atop the Hot 100. Swift began to re-record her first six albums to resolve a dispute regarding their masters. She launched two albums in 2021 - Fearless (Taylor’s Edition) and Red. "All Too Well (10 minute version)" was the longest track to make it to the top of the Hot 100. The album she released in 2022, Midnights and its lead single "Anti-Hero" have set new all-time streaming music records. Swift has also produced music films and videos like All Too Well, The Short Film (2021) and performed supporting roles. Swift is among the most well-known musicians ever. Swift is the most streamed woman in Spotify. She's also the only artist with five albums that sold over a million copies in the US. Her awards include 12 Grammy Awards, including three Album of the Year winners; an Emmy Award; 39 American Music Awards and 29 Billboard Music Awards. She also holds 92 Guinness World Records. Swift has been featured in such lists as Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Songwriters of All time; Billboard's Greatest of All Time Artists; Forbes Celebrity 100; and Billboard's 100 Greatest of All Time Artists. Swift was awarded the Artist of the Decade title as well as the Woman of the Decade title. Swift's music is responsible for inspiring the next generation of the field of singer-songwriters.
